Description: This activity, inspired by “Careful with that Ball, Eugene” by Tohby Riddle, not only encourages the development of complex sentences but also involves the identification of grammatical features. With this game students will increase their vocabulary and writing skills.

Learning Outcomes: Pupils will be able to identify grammatical features and increase thecomplexity of their writing.

Greek Word Detective

Description: A Matching game and a Connect four game have been devised to help pupils become aware of the influence of Ancient Greek on the modern English language and how various Greek “roots” (phono, graph, cardio etc.) are combined to make a variety of technical and general words in English.

Learning Outcomes: Pupils will have developed their literacy skills through familiarising themselves with words that have Greek “roots”.

 

The Elves and the Shoemaker

Description: This game has been devised to help reinforce pupils memory of the characters from the ‘Elves and the Shoemaker’ book in a fun way. This will help increase their knowledge of the story line and the characters within it.

Learning Outcomes: Pupils will have increased their knowledge of “The Elves and the
Shoemaker” book and the characters within it.

Burning Dominoes

Description: This dominoes activity is designed to consolidate the spelling and meanings of scientific vocabulary.
 
Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to identify the different types of chemical reactions and their meanings.

Stability

Description: This game has been devised to help pupils to be able to generalise about stability (or instability), explain why some objects are more/less stable and compare the stability of different objects.

Learning Outcomes: students will be aware of the stability and instability of certain objects and will be able to familiarise themselves with a language that involves comparison and qualifier.

Antisemitism and Anne Frank

Description: Ethnic minorities have always come up against prejudice; even today many minority groups continue to suffer discrimination and oppression. However, no group has experienced such systematic destruction and dehumanisation as the Jews at the hands of the Nazis. This activity will study events in Europe mainly during the 1930s and 1940s and will explore what life would have been like in Anne Frank’s Europe.

Learning Outcomes: Students will have learned about the persecution of the Jews and the effect of this on the life of Anne Frank.

Catch the Plague

Description: The Great Plague was an epidemic that devastated London and the south east of England between 1664 and 1666. The poor conditions in towns and cities were a major cause of the disease spreading quickly. This game have been devised to consolidate student’s learning of the causes of the plague.

Learning Outcomes: Students will have broadened their understanding of the symptoms and cures of the plague.

Punctuation Game

Description: The correct use of punctuation is a key skill in writing. We have devised a fun activity to help children learn about using punctuation.

Learning Outcomes: Students will have gained a greater understanding of the correct ways of using punctuation.

 

Oliver Twist

Description: Oliver Twist is one of the most popular books written by Charles Dickens. This game has been devised to help students to memorise the characters within the book.

Learning Outcomes: Students will have reinforced their knowledge of the main characters and some key events within the book.

Underlying Causes of First World War

Description: This dominoes activity helps students to gain an understanding of the underlying causes of the First World War exploring how certain aspects and causes of the war had more effect than others. The game is designed to raise discussion and to encourage more varied responses.

Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to discuss the underlying causes of WW1 and
demonstrate their understanding through linking together some of the issues.
